.   DUTIES

  • Performs screening assessment, treatment and referral of patients / clients in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Performs general outpatient, accident and emergency services at Hospital.
  • Provides general medical care commensurate with level of skill and experience.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, selection, deployment, orientation, training and development and performance management of all staff under direct supervision.
  • Responsible for management of patients admitted in collaboration with District Medical Officers and consulting Specialist Medical Practitioners as appropriate.
  • Shares medical on-call with District Medical Officers for inpatients, accidents and emergencies, including nights and weekends.
  • Provides a visiting medical service to the remote Aboriginal communities. 
  • Participates in the collection of essential data. 
  • Coordinates referrals to visiting Medical Specialists. 
  • Supports Nursing, Aboriginal Health Workers and Allied Health staff in delivery of health care. 
  • Acts as role mode for supervised medical students during their placements.
  • Participates in local education needs of staff and patients as per Hospital and local objectives. 
  • Performs on-site teaching services as required and provide leadership.
  • Attends post graduate educational courses as appropriate or as recommended by the Hospital.
  • Participate in the after hours, weekend, public holiday, on call, roaster with the District Medical Officers.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, selection, deployment, orientation, training and development and performance management of all staff under direct supervision.
  • Provide Obstetric and Gynaecological services to women attending the Antenatal clinic, Antenatal ward or Birth Suites.
  • Assist in the development of business cases for service enhancement opportunities.
  • Support health services Nurses and Community Health Nurses in their performance of duties.

 

 ESSENTIAL CRITERIA           

  • Possession of a medical Degree.
  • Post graduate experience in relevant areas commensurate with clinical duties in a small hospital and primary health care setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership and medical supervisory skills.
  • Sound understanding of remote area health service provision.
  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues within a cross cultural environment, particularly Aboriginal people.
  • Current knowledge of principles and practices in Equal Employment Opportunity, Occupational Safety, Health and quality Improvement.

 

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Experience in cross-cultural environment.
  • Experience and / or a sincere interest in Public Health and commitment to primary health programmes.
  • Experience in the rural health sector.


REMUNERATION

  • AUD 330,000 to 370,000 per annum.
  • In addition a district allowance, a generous rent subsisdy, 9% superannuation is payable.
  • Other benefits include Salary packaging, 6 weeks leave per annum, use of a car, and additional rural incentives for longer periods of service.
