This Health Service is one of the biggest in the world. The range of health services provided cover primary health care, emergency and hospital services, population health, mental health, Indigenous health and aged care.

DUTIES

  • Provide surgical services including outpatient, inpatient and operative services for all patients admitted for all patients under his or her care or under other Practitioners care.
  • Provide visiting surgical services to nearby region sites.
  • Participate in the after hours, weekend, public holidays on call roaster in association with the general surgeon based in the Health service.
  • Support Aboriginal health workers, Allied Health staff, Hospital and Community Nurses in delivering appropriate clinical services.
  • Report notifiable diseases promptly to the Public health unit.
  • Supervise and assist Medical Students with respect to their learning goals and objectives.
  • Liase closely and support other Medical practitioners.
  • Assist with educational needs of the surrounding region staff as per HDWA programs and strategies.
  • Through leadership and advocacy, seek to improve surgical care throughout the region.
  • Attend and Contribute to health services, Doctors clinical association and medical advisory committee meetings as organized by the Senior Medical officers.
  • Participate in the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS)  Evaluation and Quality Improvement Program (EQuIP) Programs as directed by the Senior Medical Officer.
  • Prepare and conduct Professional reports, reviews and other requests pertaining to patients under his / her care.
  • Adhere to the conditions of services of other salaried Medical officers as outlined in the enterprise bargaining agreement and follow the Kimberley code of ethics and code of conduct.
  • Participate in the performance management systems with the Senior Medical Officer on a regular basis.
  • Other duties as directed and delegated by the Senior Medical officer.

 

 ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Post graduate qualification in general surgery.
  • Experience in surgical management of trauma and  possession of basic orthopaedic skills.
  • Experience  and skills in performing Caesarian section.
  • Working in a cross cultural environment.
  • Ability to travel nights away from home on a regular basis.
  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal, team, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

REMUNERATION

  • AUD 330,000 to 400,000 per annum
  • In addition a district allowance, a generous rent subsidy, 9% superannuation is payable taking total remuneration package to up to AUD 450,000 per annum.
  • Other benefits include salary packaging, 6 weeks leave per annum, use of a car, and additional rural incentives for longer periods of service.
